Artist Statement
In recent years I have been creating a collection of work that explores the disconnect between human desires and the laws of nature. Using the symbolic language of Dutch Golden Age still life paintings, my work examines the consequences of our relentless pursuit of comfort within capitalist systems. By pairing the visual allure of the Golden Age with contemporary environmental concerns, the work prompts a reevaluation of our priorities and fosters dialogue about the urgency of embracing a more harmonious relationship with the natural world.
Behind the scenes
Drawing from my background as an on-set stylist for commercial work, I created and photographed these still life setups as references for my graphite drawings.
